"For some reason, Tim Pawlenty has a reputation outside of Minnesota as too friendly and nice to fight for conservative causes.  Late last night, he demonstrated once again why Minnesotans know better — and why taxpayers in this state will miss him once his term ends in December:

Minnesota has a rich Scandinavian heritage, and if Democrats in the state legislature have their way the state is headed toward Scandinavian tax rates. Governor Tim Pawlenty, a likely GOP Presidential candidate, has now smacked this slow, fat pitch out of the ballpark.

Earlier this week Democrats who control both legislative houses passed a three-year $1 billion income tax increase. This would raise the top tax rate to 9.1% from 7.85%, taking the rate even higher than that in New Jersey and New York (outside of Manhattan).

Despite the promise of a swift gubernatorial veto, the DFL-led Senate and House narrowly passed a budget-balancing package Monday that includes a $435 million income tax increase on higher earners.

It's been a bad week for Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. Of course, it's also been a good week for Republican Presidential Contender Tim Pawlenty.

Like every governor, Mr. Pawlenty has been locked in a struggle to make ends meet in the wake of a national economic crisis that has left states, even more than the federal government, strapped for cash, fighting deficits and straining to pay bills.

Saint Paul – The following is a statement from Governor Tim Pawlenty regarding the Minnesota Supreme Court’s 4-3 decision in the unallotment lawsuit:

“I strongly disagree with this 4-3 decision by the court. Nonetheless it will require the legislature and my administration to address its budget impacts. The funds do not exist to reinstate my unallotments and the state budget needs to be balanced without raising taxes.I call upon the DFL-controlled legislature to ratify the unallotments I enacted last year.

"A few days ago," Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty relates, "I was having breakfast with my wife, my 91-year-old mother-in-law and daughters, 17 and 13. On TV there was a news report about the financial situation in Greece. Out of the blue, my 13-year-old said, 'This is going to be us pretty soon.' I almost dropped my fork. This is an eighth-grader."...

With scrutiny of the federal government's response to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico intensifying, the Obama administration may have an unlikely ally: Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

Pawlenty, R-Minn., a likely 2012 presidential candidate, said on ABC’s “Top Line” that while it’s too soon to be conclusive about the effectiveness and speed of the federal response, he thinks the government “is responding to the best of their abilities.”

WASHINGTON -- Healthy state economies will play a critical role in future job creation, but Minnesota does not rank among the nation's top 10 "growth performers," according to a U.S. Chamber of Commerce study rolled out Monday by Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

"It's not surprising at all," the Minnesota Republican said during the report's unveiling in the capital. "It's something I've been talking about for years. Minnesota needs to be more competitive as it relates to jobs."

WASHINGTON -- Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty on Monday cautioned business executives that the United States cannot succeed if its education policy leaves children unprepared for the work force and urged Washington to give states more flexibility.

The votes are in and tallied and the winner of Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty's first 'crowdsourced' endorsement contest is Wisconsin candidate Sean Duffy. Duffy (R, who's challenging Rep. David R. Obey (D), edged out conservative crowd-pleaser Rep. Michele Bachmann (Minn.), Sen. Tom Coburn (Okla.) and 19 other candidates Pawlenty had already endorsed.

The Minnesota governor (and 2012 GOP presidential possibility) ran an online contest through his political action committee, encouraging his backers to vote for their favorite 2010 midterm candidate from among the 22 he has endorsed.
